COUTANSPON Haemostatic Sponge, which is an absorbable gelatin sponge used for haemostasis. Specifications and Uses: Composition: It is a sterile, water-insoluble, malleable, porcine gelatin absorbable sponge. Absorption: It has strong water absorption, capable of absorbing over 35 times its own weight in water under normal temperature and humidity conditions, and approximately 45 times its own weight in blood. Mechanism of Action: It stops bleeding by adhering to the bleeding site and activating thrombocytes upon contact with blood. This activation promotes the aggregation of thrombocytes and facilitates the formation of fibrin, which is crucial for blood clot formation and stopping bleeding. Absorption in Tissues: When implanted in tissues, it is absorbed within 3-4 weeks. Indications: It is indicated for surgical procedures (excluding ophthalmic) where control of capillary, venous, and arteriolar bleeding by conventional methods (like pressure or ligature) is ineffective or impractical. It can be used dry or saturated with a sterile sodium chloride solution, and can also be used with thrombin to enhance hemostasis.
